10.

With regard to clause (i), the Crown rent

of Quarry Bay Marine Lot 1, of which the area cross-hatched in yellow forms part, is at the rate of 8100 per acre and it is therefore reasonable that the rent of an equivalent portion of the area coloured rad, which will also be a Marine Lot, should be at the same rate. The Crow rents of Quarry Bay Inland Lots 2, 7 and 8 are at the rates of 3100, $200 and $100 per acre

respectively.

11.

With regard to clause (k), the leases of

all the existing lots involved, with the exception of that of Inland Lot 7, which is for 75 years, (renewable), are for 999 years, Messrs. Butterfield and Swire demurred at first to the lease of the area coloured red being for 75 years, renewable, but it was pointed out to them that, in the case of their Shipyard lots, the Government had extended the leases from 99 years (rmewable) to 999 years.

12.

I may add that I caused the project to be referred to the Public Works Committee, which, as recently reorganized by me, includes all the Unofficial Members of Legislative Council, and they have unanimously recommended that it be carried into effect. No provision for its execution has been made in the current year's Estimates and the question of arranging the dates and periods for this purpose will be discussed with Messrs. Butterfield and Swire on receipt of Your Lordship's approval for which I ask with confidence as I am satisfied that the adoption of the proposals will result in a very appreciable benefit to the public.

I have the honour to be,

My Lord,

Your Lordship's most obedient,

humble servant

7.8. Stubbs

Governor, &c..
